Welcome to the homeroom page for the 5th graders at St. Edward. Our name is the Prophets.
Fifth graders at St. Edward are part of our middle school.
Our philosophy around this is that there is a huge transition from fourth to middle school. Fifth grade is that bridge. It gives the students a year of practice with moving classes, letter grades, time management and other important skills that they need moving forward. I call it the "practice lab- that helps to develop strong habits and to retrain other habits that need to be stronger."
Hello, My name is Ms. Ann Marie De Caro, I have been a teacher at St. Edward for over 12 years. I was hired because the 5/6 split needed to become two separate classes. I became the fifth grade homeroom teacher. Fifth grade is not the only class I teach. St. Edward has moved to a specialization model for grades 5-8. Each teacher has their homeroom, teaches English Language Arts to their homeroom and teaches a specialty, math, science, social studies, or religion to all 5-8 grades.
My specialty is spirituality and religion. The qualifications to teach these areas where given at Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Behavioral and Social Sciences. In Washington, Seattle University conferred upon me a Maters Degree of Theology in Transforming Spirituality and Leadership.
I have also had training at the Center for Ministry Development in Connecticut.
